The law requires that we dock at at least one foreign port on our ship’s travels. Norwegian Cruise Lines picked a great one: Fanning Island, which is part of the Republic of Kirabati (pronounced “Keer’-a-bas”). This is a very primitive island with no TV, radio, internet, cell phone. NCL set up some facilities there just to feed us safely. We needed to be taken from the ship on transports as there is no deep water dock.
